Skill readiness

How skill readiness scoring works

Academy completion, guided practice and assessed workplace performance are separate. Practice first, then choose an assessment when you feel ready. Your best assessed workstation score per assignment counts; you can reassess.

Your profile

Learning progress and demonstrated skills, clearly separated.

Job Workstation reports your best assessed score per assignment and the average across assessed assignments. Skill scores come from those assessed scenarios. Lesson completion and guided practice do not count as assessed workplace ability. Earlier career records remain available as historical progress.

The profile shown is an example SOC Analyst result.

What each lab and simulation is scored on

Guided labs can include knowledge checks and decision exercises. Job Workstation uses simulated tools and workplace deliverables. Assessed work is graded on resolution, safe actions, evidence, outcome verification and documentation. Feedback explains how to improve.

PartWhat it checks
Evidence coverageDid you review the evidence that matters and tag the items that support your decision?
ClassificationDid you correctly identify what you were looking at, such as a true positive, a false positive, a misconfiguration or an acceptable risk?
Severity or risk ratingDoes your rating match the impact, scope and likelihood?
Response decisionsDid you choose proportionate containment, remediation or escalation steps, and avoid unnecessary ones?
DocumentationCould another analyst, a manager or an auditor understand what happened and what you did from your notes?

How readiness is calculated

  • Skills are role-specific. Each career path has its own set of skills. For example, Incident Responder readiness averages six skills, including alert triage, endpoint analysis, incident response and digital forensics.
  • Your best assessed result per workstation assignment counts. You can practise without a readiness penalty and reassess after reviewing feedback. Earlier attempts remain accessible.
  • Unassessed skills show Not assessed yet. A missing assessment means there is no measured evidence yet; it does not mean you have zero ability.
  • Shared skills carry over. If you switch from SOC analyst to incident responder, results for skills both roles use still count.

Career levels

Career levels and earlier skill records remain available as historical progress. They are separate from Job Workstation demonstrated performance. Use the learning dashboard to continue lessons and the workstation feedback to choose what to practise or reassess.

How to use your profile

Your profile highlights your weakest skill and recommends a scenario that targets it. A practical routine is to complete one new lab or simulation, then one recommended scenario for your weakest skill. If documentation is your weak spot, write notes as if your manager will read them, because on the job they will.

Readiness scores guide practice. They do not replace certifications, but they give you specific work to discuss in interviews. See cybersecurity certifications by role for how the two fit together.

FAQ

Frequently asked questions

Is the readiness score a certification?

No. It is a practice measure that shows how consistently you perform the work of a role. It complements certifications rather than replacing them.

Can my score go down?

A lower reassessment does not replace your best result for the same assignment. Adding a newly assessed assignment can change the average. Practice results do not lower demonstrated performance.

How many attempts does it take to get an accurate score?

Your best assessed result per workstation assignment counts. Use several relevant assessed assignments to build evidence of consistent performance. There is no assessment pressure during guided practice.

Do I get a separate score for each career?

Yes. Readiness is calculated per career path. Switching paths keeps your history, and shared skills count toward both.
